2023 Uwharrie 100 (Wes Claytor)

My alarm startled me at 4 a.m. as I awoke lying in the passenger seat of my wife’s Volkswagen Jetta. I was alone, surrounded by all my gear and supplies, and I felt great as excitement rushed through me. The day was finally here—it was time to run the Uwharrie 100.

2023 Black Mountain Ultra Traverse (Wes Claytor)

48 miles of mountain running is tough. 48 miles of mountain running up and down Mt. Mitchell and out and back along the Black Mountain Crest Trail without any aid or support other than what you can carry with you is really tough.

This is the most scenic race on the east coast.” All of these legends and stories intrigued me, so I wanted to see for myself.

2023 URE Marathon (Wes Claytor)

The URE Marathon is a free trail marathon in the Uwharrie National Forest in North Carolina. I’ve run this marathon 4 times now and consider it one of my annual favorites. However, this year they updated the course, and now it’s 100% single-track trail and has about 5000 feet of elevation gain, which makes it slightly more difficult than in past years.
