Race Reports:
At UltraCulture Running, one of our goals is to create a space where members of the running community can share their race experiences with one another, not exclusive to UltraCulture races. We want to hear about them all!
Have you participated in a cool race lately? Tell us about it! Submit your race report to be shared on this page and on our social media!
Running 100 Miles In A Day
The next 3 hours were some of the most miserable minutes of my life, alternating between profusely sweating and shivering cold, nausea, exhaustion, and an unrelenting throbbing in my knees and feet. I was struggling to walk the inclines. I was complaining about trivial nonsense. I was close to coming undone. But I didn’t. We just kept moving forward.
Old Dominion 100 (2021)
After the usual prerace shenanigans were handled, we found ourselves standing at the starting line with the rest of the runners, awaiting our countdown to the 4:00 AM start. We began the 2021 Old Dominion 100 right on time.
Dark Sky 50 Miler (2021)
We arrived at Pickett CCC Memorial State Park on Thursday, April 29th, 2021—two days before the Dark Sky 50 Miler.
I had just raced three weeks prior at the Beast Of The East 50 Miler, so I wasn’t quite sure how well my body would perform. That being stated, I still had my stretch goal of a sub-10 hour finish.
Beast of the East 50 Miler (2021)
The race director, Richard, wrangles us runners and gets us gathered down by a gate to prepare for the start of the 2021 Beast of the East 50 Miler.
“3…2….1….Go!”
The race begins with a steep gravel climb, roughly a mile or so long before we funnel into some singletrack which quickly becomes some gnarly rock scrambles and a lot of jumping and hopping.
URE Marathon (2021)
The URE Marathon is a free annual trail marathon that takes place in the Uwharrie National Forest of North Carolina, and it’s easily one of my favorite races to participate in. The course is roughly 26 miles with a little over 4000 feet of elevation gain and a similar elevation loss.
The Goggins Challenge
David created a challenge known as the 4x4x48 Challenge, or the Goggins Challenge, where your objective is to run 4 miles every 4 hours for 48 hours. I first heard about it last year, and after gaining some popularity within the ultra community, I decided to take a crack at it.
